Art and Cook Garlic Press Chrome Dreams Collection Review

I usually base my Amazon purchases on the feedback of other customers.For some reason I decided to go out on a limb with this garlic press and buy it even though no one else had shared their experiences.I now wish I hadn't.

The best (and only redeeming) part of the design of this press seems inspired by the Kuhn Rikon "Epicurean," being that the press screen flips out for easy cleaning. This did in fact make for easy cleaning, but it unfortunately doesn't make up for the following:

1. This press does not actually handle whole cloves (with skin) very well.Leaving on the skin dramatically reduced the amount of useable garlic that came out the screen.
2. This press can only handle about one clove at a time.
3. The handles are so close together that they seem to interfere with one another while pressing.
4. The screen is recessed from the face so that the pressed garlic is difficult to remove from the face.
5. The holes in the screen are so far from the edges of the screen that un-pressed garlic accumulates along the inner sides of the screen.
6. The black plastic front of the pressing "plunger" was partially detached from the metal pressing handle, though apparently not by design.

This may seem like a lot of mere nitpicking and whining for a $12 press, and I wouldn't have even mentioned most of this stuff, if it weren't for the most crucial point that after less than a week of fairly light use, part of the hinge-pin connecting the two parts inexplicably broke and the whole pin slid out, leaving two very attractively designed halves.If appearances are all that matter to you, then this will make a very attractive addition to any kitchen.If you're hoping to actually cook with it, however, you may want to buy a few.
