Orka Sink Mat Medium Lace Review

I really like having some kind of sink protector to protect both my sink and my breakable kitchen items in case one of them slips out of my hands when I'm washing up. My only problem for the past couple of years was that every mat I've found in the stores ended up sliding all over the bottom of the sink at the merest touch - sometimes just running the water at full power to fill the sink up was enough to shift some of them around (or make them float up as the sink filled - really annoying).

It doesn't seem like that big an issue - but if the only purpose of a sink mat is to stay between the dishes and the bottom of the sink, and you have to constantly fight with it to keep it in place to do the job, it soon gets to be more of a bother than it's worth, no matter little you spent for the thing.

This mat is supposed to be "non-slip" and it definitely lives up to that promise, at least in my stainless steel sink. It also seems to have enough open space to keep a lot of water from getting caught underneath it and creating unseen gunk and undue staining, which is another reason I've ended up just throwing out a lot of the other mats I've tried over the years. And it still provides enough protection that I'm not worried about letting a dish or glass slip and having it break against the sink bottom.

Plus, at this price, it's about the same price or cheaper than most of the mats I've seen and/or tried that are sold under the more well-known (to me) brand names. I'm not sure about durability, since I've only been using it for a couple of days - but I'd be willing to order a few more at this price just to have on hand, because eventually I know it will get stained with something and start to look permanently "dirty" and I'll want to switch it out for a new one.

For those wondering about size, the description says you can cut it to fit your sink, which would in fact be easy enough to do - but I have two small twin sinks in my kitchen and it fits in the sink bottom perfectly without any alterations. You could of course cut out a hole in the center for easier access to the drain without much of a hassle if you wanted to. All in all, this is a great product at a good price as far as I'm concerned.
