Royal Oak Charcoal 9 Lb. Review

I have used several different kinds of lump, and I do enjoy the way the Royal oak burns. It has averageto lower ash, burns hot, and burns steady. What I don't like is the number of rocks that I find in my grill when using this. I once found a rock that was about 3 inches in diameter!!! Not only was I upset about paying for this weight, but I could have cracked my ceramic grill pouring this in. It has a little higher than average small chunks as well, but this does not hurt if you build your fire correctly, putting the larger chunks on the bottom. It's also really low cost if you purchase it at Wally World.

It has elatively low smoke flavor (just a hint of oak) which is nice if you want to create your own smoke flavor with your own choice of smoking woods. (a plus for most serious grillers) Fires up very hot if you want it, but will also smolder for many hours (I have done over 14 hours with no problem.)

I would have given 4 stars for no rocks, and 5 stars for more chunk size consistency.

I think once I have collected 10 lbs of rocks I am going to send them back to Royal Oak and ask for a free bag to cover the rocks I paid for.
